If You Could Ask AI "How Is the Business Doing This Month?" and It Answered From Real Numbers, What Would You Do With the Time You Got Back?

Something every business owner will probably recognise
Every month-end there is a ritual that people running a business know well: opening several screens, checking sales, going through expenses, comparing with last month, and trying to answer a simple question in your head: "So how are we doing this month? What is the real profit? Is there anything we should watch out for?"
The question is simple, but getting the answer takes hours. Some people have to export data and keep working in Excel. Others wait for the accounting team to summarise it, which takes several days. The information ends up being a "look back" rather than a timely decision.
So we asked ourselves: what if we could ask AI directly, like asking a finance assistant sitting next to us?
The experiment: connecting Claude directly to FlowAccount
What we did was connect Claude to FlowAccount (an online accounting system widely used by Thai SMEs) through what is called MCP (Model Context Protocol). Put simply, it is a channel that lets AI access real data in the system securely. It doesn't just guess from what it learned in training; it pulls the company's real numbers.
Once connected, using it is surprisingly simple: you just type a question in ordinary language.
"How is the business doing this month?"
Then Claude does the whole job:
- Pulls real data from FlowAccount, including sales, income and expenses
- Summarises the overall picture: profit and loss, and the trend compared with the previous period
- Builds a dashboard that is easy to read, so you don't have to read long tables
- Flags points to watch, such as expenses growing abnormally or items worth a closer look Work that used to take 2-3 hours is reduced to "typing a question"
The interesting part is not the speed, but "AI that can do the work"
Many people know AI as a "chatbot that answers questions well": we ask, it answers, and that's the end.
But what happened in this experiment was different. Claude didn't just answer; it carried out several steps of work to completion, from going in to pull the data, to processing, summarising and creating visuals, all from a single sentence of instruction.
This is what the industry calls Agentic AI: AI that acts like an "assistant" that takes an open-ended task and handles it itself, not just a tool you have to feed commands step by step.
This difference matters more than it seems, because it changes our role from "person who builds reports" to "person who asks questions and makes decisions", which is work that creates far more value.
Why this matters for Thai SMEs
In the past, technology like this was often seen as something for large companies, needing an IT team and a big investment in expensive systems.
But what this experiment proves is that it is now within reach. SMEs that already use FlowAccount can build on it right away, with no need to tear out their system, hire a development team or have a technical background, because using it means "asking questions", which everyone already knows how to do.
For owners of small and medium businesses who often wear many hats and have no time to build reports themselves, a tool like this gives time back so they can focus on what matters more: making decisions and growing the business.
What we learned
This experiment confirmed a belief we have always held: the real value of AI is not in "how advanced the technology is" but in "whether it solves real problems at work".
Connecting Claude to FlowAccount is not a flashy gimmick. It answers a pain point business owners face every month, and does so in a way ordinary people can use. This is an interesting direction for AI in real work: not AI that replaces people, but AI that genuinely works alongside us.
Have you tried using AI to help with your business's back-office work? Or do you have repetitive tasks you'd like it to handle?
